Will electric vehicles and multi-megawatt batteries wean consumers off oil? Investors can't wait for the answer if there's money to be made. They grabbed hold of A123 Systems in Q3. The maker of rechargeable batteries saw its stock climb 50% on its first day of trading on the NASDAQ, closing slightly above $20 per share. However, folks seemed not to get a charge out of business software. CDC Software also debuted in Q3 on the NASDAQ, but on its first day of trading its stock slumped 17% to just under $10 per share.
